The Decency of Seychelles Nation Being Put To Test
This last month, a plethora of malpractice, potential criminality surfaced in Seychelles, that puts to test the decency of our Nation and our people.
Tourists Being Attacked
Tourist are being robbed daily and attacked regularly on trials on Mahe and Beau Vallon. The Police have their hands full. No amount of money, no amount of new vehicles can solve these problems. Officers need training, education, and savior faire in public affairs.
The Magistrate Court ordered Jemmy Marengo, released after NDEA failed to provide sufficient evidence on the importation of 1.2 kilos of drugs thru Port Victoria in a 20 foot container. I met Liam Quinn and asked him what the problem was. He said the NDEA had not received the cooperation of Cable and Wireless to provide the telephone records in a timely manner, to corroborate the evidence, to establish cause for a charge, to further extend the detention.
Well, NDEA now has all the time in the World to build its case. It should, for the sake of Seychelles reputation and image.
Beau Vallon Skull No DNA Results
After months now, we are still waiting for the Seychelles Police to come clean with the DNA report on the skull found at Beau Vallon. The family of the victim needs closure first and foremost. Secondly, our countries sense of decency is on the line. Does Seychelles condone murdering, burying of its citizens, kicking about of his skull, reports go buried devoid of a sense of decency as a people? Is this what we are all about in Seychelles? Our friends, neighbors, colleagues can be murdered, body dismembered, tucked away under neath a no name grave and everything is fine in paradise. Is this Seychelles?
New Threats
This week, let's put the corruption issues aside. Let us focus on John Denis and Pat Pillay's accusations that they are being threaten and harassed.
I know exactly what they are going through.
1. Phone calls late at night, from people you do not know, and numbers not registered.
2. Occasional drive by at night, maybe a rock on your roof, that escalates to a fire to a building, or a gun shot to your house.
3. A play of tag on the road, with vehicles at high speed.
4. More phone calls. Sometimes a visit, at night.
5. Office ransack ensues at some point.
6. Car sabotage will follow.
7. On one occasion we were sent 100 soldiers courtesy of the Army to march in front of us and our guests. Credits to Colonel Ernesta from the days when he use cut dred locks of Seychellois residing in Anse Boudin and then he would hang them on the Takamaka Tree between the cross roads of Côte D'Or and Anse Takamaka.
As a people, we must stand up against thug tactics and we must say no violence in our politics.
I am sadden to see Seychelles going down this road again. We need to rise above the temptation of violence.
To do this as a Nation, the leadership must take a solid stance on violence. This starts with James Michel.
Let us rise to the occasion and show the World how decent Seychellois can be.......do it in memory of Alton Ah-time. It is the least we can do as a People.
Seselwa Unite!
Sesel Pou Seselwa!
May God Bless All Freedom Loving Seychellois!
