This is a fundamental flaw in Michel's speech.
He has allowed foreigners to do 90 percent of projects and holding Seychellois in handcuffs for years.
Today, we have access to low interest rate loans from international banks, by passing local banks for new projects that involve infrastructure, like roads, electricity etc... This can be a new surge in FDI which Michel missed completely. At the same time, such FDI can help,to strengthen the Seychelles rupee and stabilize the monetary pendulum, investment not being a strain on reserves.
While hotels lumber at 51 percent occupancy, no one will cut the ribbon on a new hotel project and remain of sound mind. Other areas of development MICHEL missed out on was the lucrative and profitable TIME Share schemes, that will bring FDI into Seychelles, keep inbound flights full year round, allow us to expand flight frequency, improve hospitals, education etc.... This is Seychelles natural next step.
Another blunder was encouraging more yhats to be based in Seychelles. How many yachts does Michel want? What role will Seyxhellois play aside from deck hands and scrubbers? Do yachts pay taxes? They do not even bother to register after three months in port.
Yacht Charter business should be reserved for Seychellois, like small hotels is. To purchase yachts at low interest, we need to work with Overseas banks, to set the course. Interest at Africa Exim bank is low, US Exim bank is low. Instead of encouraging Seychellois to go into that business, he encourages foreigners to do it.
Monopoly issue- not a simple issue to deal with. Complex, like Cancer. But it must be dealt with. Failing to deal with this, it will destroy the Seychelles economy like a Cancer to the human body. PL needs to muster the courage, bravado, smarts to deal with this issue. It can be done, and done to everyone's satisfaction, including the Monopolists. They are already controlling the economy.

Banning the use of petroleum-based plastic bag......would be a good thing for the environment.
There are alternaitves already to petroleum.based plstic.

-Or biodegraded plastic bags made from farm products like SOY and Cornstarch(12 weeks to 6 months degradable)
-PHA biopalstic
-PLA plastic (drives from cane sugar)
etc..etc..
Using Paper,Aluminium,Glass instead of plastic and reclycle materials,,,,and banning single-use plastic completely.......many products like yoghurt pakages can by replace by envorinment friendly package.....
Can we live without plastic bag and package...?of course we can,,it is just a state of mind...and that is is changeable with time education and adaptation.
I do not know why this government does not let these business people handle this seaweed issue.
It is a gold mine and given the right policy support, it is worth millions to Seychelles economy.
