Despilly Williams, artist extraordinaire, accompanied by Allen Bacco paid a visit to Christopher Gill en route from La Digue today.
Despilly Williams presented to Christopher, a purple shirt that belong to his father Mickey Mancham, which Des says Mickey gave me this shirt in 1970 when we were on tour in Mauritius.
The shirt was a gift, and Despilly William said the death of Mickey was such a tragic event in his life, he was my best friend, we were so close, I kept the shirt all this time for 45 years.
Despilly said he knew Mickey had a Son that left Seychelles in 1970 but he did not know his name. Des says about Five (5) years ago, I came to understand that Christopher Gill was in fact Mickey son, the son he spoke about in Mauritius.
On tour in Mauritius Des said they were invited Gatean Duval to perform town to town. When we left Mauritius, we had 10,000 people saying good bye to us as we took the ship to Mahe. I will never forget this time, Despilly said.
Christopher Gill said he will have the story written and the shirt framed, and he will offer it to Minister Alain St. Ange, to place in the Seychelles Stars Hall of Fame, it is an incredible and emotional story. Des has mentioned numerous times on radio and TV that he has. A precious souvenir of Mickey Mancham, his best friend, who died too young, and left all of Seychelles broken hearted. Today at least, he said, I am happy to give this souvenir to his Son Christopher Gill.
