Pierre Laporte Resigns From Finance

It has been announced by State House that Pierre Laporte has resigned. The Minister of Finance, driving the strategy of the Seychelles economy has called it quits.
It could not come at a worse time.
Minister Laporte was the Chief Engineer on the Seychelles Economic Plan and Recovery Program after Seychelles defaulted on Lehman Brothers Bonds and the country went Bankrupt, no different then Greece.
Minister Laporte managed the economy from a purely Kensyian approach, resorting to the Central Bank of Seychelles to issue Bonds, sell them and offer interests rates that are favorable to clean up or mop up excess rupees in circulation. Additionally, he created a weighted basket of currencies to determine the value of a Seychelles Rupee in the market place. He was a successful Central Banker and he should have stayed there. But the temptations of grandeur, in the lime light at Finance was irresistible.
Once at Finance, Mr. Laporte set out to renovate his offices, at a whopping cost of SCR. 2 Million. You cannot find SCR. 2 Million in that office at Liberty House.
Then Minister Laporte had a Public Relations issue. He lack the fibre to face the business community, turning down numerous engagements to meet with business in Praslin, ignoring the red alert signs of a failing economy from SHTA and SCCI and this writer, he dished out a take it or leave it BUDGET STRATEGY that placed the entire Seychelles economy in PERIL, where she sits now, like the passengers on the Titanic, trying to get off the ship, after she hit an ice burg.

Our "Ice burg" under Pierre Laporte was his insistence to increase taxes, increase VAT to an unrealistic 15% at a time when the main in bound markets of Seychelles were undergoing a period of severe DEFLATION and contraction of the economy.
This move by Pierre Laporte was like throwing fuel on to a house on fire.
He ignored outside markets, in calculating his Budget Strategy, as if, money was something that grows on trees.
Money does not grow on trees Mr. Pierre Laporte. It has to be earned.....the hard way with the sweat and pain of each Seychellois!
If you did not know that yesterday, today, I am sure, you will know that by tomorrow.
Next time the phone when Christopher Gill calls, I do not like being passed around to clueless directors.

Mwan ou mem!

Elections for Seychellois, or for Michel?(witten by: Think Africa Press 2012)

This weekend Seychelles will go to the polls to elect a new National Assembly after President Michel's Parti Lepep led a National Assembly vote to dissolve itself in July this year.
Elections were due to take place in 2012 but the vote means new elections had to be held within 90 days. The dissolution was the end result of a sequence of events which began with the idea of reform and an apparent attempt to make elections more fair and transparent. But the process has ended with a situation where the election may produce a result less representative of political feeling in Seychelles than the presidential elections in May, won by James Michel.

After the presidential election

After the presidential elections in May 2011 it appeared that the newly re-elected President Michel might commit to electoral reform. The presidential elections took place amid allegations of corruption, unfairness and of a lack of transparency. Independent observers made various post-election recommendations. A common theme was the creation of an electoral commission to replace the single electoral commissioner  - although observers were complimentary about Hendrick Gappy himself.
From the Commonwealth Expert Team preliminary report:
From the Commission de L'Ocean Indien Organisation International preliminary report:
From the SADC Electoral Commissions Forum preliminary report:
In his victory speech Michel said:
“In the New Seychelles we shall continue to put in place and strengthen our legal and institutional frameworks to ensure the progress of our democracy. It is my aim to improve on our achievements and to reinforce the rule of law, good governance and transparency.”
This seemed to suggest that Michel was willing to go ahead with reforms and wanted to improve democracy in Seychelles. Of course, talking about change is not enough. Michel's own government launched a Constitutional Reform Committee in 2008 shortly after the last round of elections which promised much and resulted in little. As a consequence the 2011 elections were were characterised by failures similar to those in the 2006 and 2007 elections.
But Michel has moved more quickly this time. Within weeks of the presidential election a new bill was tabled to create an electoral commission. The bill was presented to the National Assembly but rejected by opposition leader Wavel Ramkalawan and his party, the Seychelles National Party (SNP). However, in a dramatic series of events one member of the SNP - Jane Carpin - crossed the floor to give Parti Lepep the 2/3 of the vote it needed to pass the bill. Michel then tried to dissolve the assembly, again using Carpin's vote to get the number of votes required. But dissolution was temporarily delayed by two appeals to the Constitutional Court arguing that a vote for dissolution had to be scheduled in advance of the vote itself so that members of the assembly could make sure they were present to vote. The appeals were upheld, but a subsequent scheduled vote for dissolution still passed, again with Carpin's vote. This happened despite the fact that Ramkalawan tried to have Carpin removed as a member of the assembly on the grounds that she was chosen by the SNP to be one of their proportionally elected seats rather than being directly elected to the assembly.

A closer look at the 6th Amendment Bill 2011

In a detailed independent observer report the Commonwealth Expert Team elaborated on its recommendation to put in place an electoral commission:
"[O]ur concern is that while [government officials] may very well go through the exercise of establishing such a Commission in fulfilment of our recommendation, the appointees to the Commission must be from a broad cross-section of stakeholders and the appointment process must also be, and be seen to be, a truly independent process."
Whether the appointees to the Commission are "from a broad cross-section of stakeholders" can be questioned. Hendrick Gappy was picked to lead the Commission, and although it will undoubtedly benefit from his experience a completely fresh start might have been helpful to make sure the appointment process is "seen to be" truly independent. Unfortunately, however, an in-depth analysis of the independence of each member of the Commission is beyond the scope of this article.
It is more important in the long-term to look at how members of the Commission are chosen and whether this is an independent process. This is set out in s.2 (f) of the 6th Amendment Bill 2011which gives a replacement for Art 115 of the Constitution. The relevant substitute section (S.115 A. (1)) states:
"The Commission shall consist of a Chairperson and four Members all of whom shall be appointed by the President selected from seven candidates … proposed by the Constitutional Appointments Authority …"
The Constitutional Appointments Authority consists of three members, one of whom is chosen by the president and one by the leader of the opposition. Those two members then agree on a chairman - although if no agreement can be made by the members then the president can choose and appoint the chairman himself. It should be apparent that this process gives the president effective control over a majority of appointments to the Constitutional Appointments Authority should he desire it.
The Constitutional Appointments Authority then proposes seven members for the Electoral Commission and the president has a veto over two members (or 30%) of proposed candidates. No veto is given to members of any other party.
From this it seems the process of choosing who will be on the Electoral Commission is compromised at two levels of the selection process. In other words the Commission cannot be guaranteed to be independent and the substantive reform in the 6th Amendment Bill does not appear to live up to Michel's claims that he will "reinforce the rule of law, good governance and transparency". The reality of reform seems to have been lost along the way.

How the bill came to be passed

It was important to independent observers that the appointment process of the Commission was "seen to be" independent. This ties in with a current problem in Seychelles - the belief that politics is corrupt and a resulting scepticism and fear that reduces democratic legitimacy in the country. We should, therefore, also look at whether the bill is seen to be fair, as well as whether it is fair.
The bill was introduced to the National Assembly and passed with no support from the opposition, except for Carpin. This makes it look like the bill was forced through the assembly rather than passing with unified political will. The lack of support also suggests that a reasonable number of people may think that the bill is unfair. Both of these factors, the apparent force and the lack of support, undermine the image of the bill as fair.
Subsequent political fighting and infighting has also marred perception of the bill. The reaction from Ramkalawan, trying to remove Carpin from the Assembly, and the actions of Carpin herself can both be called into question and serve to make recent events about politics and power rather than substantive reform. Neither the bill, nor the way the bill was made into law, seem to embody a spirit of transparency, good governance, or fairness.

Dissolution of the National Assembly

The content of the 6th Amendment Bill, and the way it came into force, could be excused as merely unfortunate; an example of parties failing to work together effectively and not considering the implications of their actions. At the very least a case could be made that both parties, and individuals such as Carpin, were trying to do what they thought was right in the national interest.
It is more difficult to say the same thing about the dissolution of the assembly.
After succeeding in passing the bill to create a new electoral commission Michel chose to try to dissolve the National Assembly. It is difficult to understand why Michel may have thought dissolving the assembly could be in the national interest.
It could be argued that the Assembly was ineffective due to the SNP's resistance to taking part in the legislative process after the results of the presidential elections which it deemed unfair. However, from Michel's point of view it is still difficult to see why dissolution was the best option for the country. If Michel believes that effectiveness of the Assembly rests in making the laws he believes are right then he should have been content: he could pass laws with his party and the support of Jane Carpin. Perhaps Michel believes it is important to have a rigorous opposition to fuel debate about the laws that are made. But this is a difficult argument to make given that no opposition is adequately prepared to fight an election. Dissolving the Assembly and having an election now will not produce at atmosphere of greater debate. Instead, with SNP and other parties boycotting, the Assembly is likely to end up more one-sided than before and with less debate. It should be noted that the non-boycotting party, the Popular Democratic Movement, has been newly set up and there are rumours that it has been set up with help from Parti Lepep to maintain the perception of a multi-party democracy.
So why dissolve the assembly? The obvious answer is in order to win. Michel may have believed that he could guarantee quick and easy victory with a forced election now. A divided opposition has completely collapsed. In its place are several small parties which will fight over and split the votes which would have gone to the SNP, leaving Parti Lepep with a large majority.
The problem with this is not so much the fact that there may have been political reasons at the heart of the decision to dissolve the Assembly. The greater problem is Michel's portrayal of himself as trying to reform the electoral process. How does holding a quick election fit in with Michel's stated desire to reform Seychelles politics into something more democratic, fair and transparent? After elections in 2006 and 2007 Michel promised reform. He failed to deliver. After the presidential elections this year he promised reform and delivered a questionable bill for a new electoral commission. But within days of passing the bill the assembly was dissolved and another election had been forced. Realistically, 90 days is not  enough time for a commission to effectively plan and oversee an election.
The single reform which was put in place has therefore been rendered practically ineffective for the current election, even leaving aside all questions of whether the commission is inherently compromised. Yet again an entire electoral cycle will have passed with no effective electoral reform. It therefore has to be questioned whether Michel wants elections that he runs in to be democratically transparent. By Monday we will have to wait another five years - half a decade, until 2016 - for the people of Seychelles to have another chance to speak.
Calling an election because you may win is not undemocratic. But if Michel thought electoral reforms were important, surely he would make sure they were cemented before the election. If he thought the check provided by an opposition party was important he would allow an opposition time to prepare rather than guaranteeing himself five years with a weaker opposition than he has now. The election may not be entirely undemocratic, but the way it has come about raises questions about whether Michel is sincere in speeches where he presents himself as holding democracy and the national interest above all else. He is a politician, and self interest, perhaps, still comes first.

PUC Killing People Slowly With High Salt Content Water

The Ministry of Health has attributed the excessive rise in kidney failure in Seychelles to a bad diet, abuse of drugs and alcoholism. The culprit may well be the tap water pumped from the sea, processed by PUC in a hit and miss no scientific certainty desalination process.

PUC has said in numerous occasions to desalinate salt water from the ocean, is too expensive and hence, they desalinate only 50 percent, then mix it with river water, without any exact measurements. The variance registered daily in this variance, is what is given people an excessively high salt diet, rendering their kidneys to cease functioning.

PUC defends it's position and says that they do not pump high salt content to the PUBLIC. But who can verify this? No one.

Salt In The Pipes

Recently, numerous plumbing works across Seychelles are faltering after being installed in just one year. Property owners are registering an unprecedented amount of breakage. When you inspect the pipes, what do we see? Heavy rust, corrosion and build up of SALT, from the PUC lines.

Who pays to replace these pipes, broken water heaters and appliances that end their performance life prematurely?

Who pays for the lost kidneys?

Salt water is for fish PL, not people!

Kuoni to exit the tour operating business

Kuoni’s UK tour operating business is being put up for sale as the Swiss travel group looks to exit the sector.
All of the group’s tour operating interests in Switzerland, Benelux, Hong Kong/China, India and Scandinavia are also to be offloaded.
This affects about 3,800 staff in total and business that generated turnover of CHF 2.2 billion last year.
“Kuoni firmly believes that the outbound business can be better developed under new ownership, potentially leveraging scale or specific local strengths," the company revealed this morning.
“Kuoni will seek assurance about the continuation of the existing business locations and the continued employment of staff.”

The company stressed that the exit from the tour operating business will not have any impact on customers or their current and future bookings.
“All units will continue to deliver their expert services to the accustomed standards of quality and reliability,” Kuoni said, adding that it intends to find new owners in the course of 2015.
Kuoni operates under a range of premium and specialist brands and ranks among the top five tour operators in Europe and has a well-established presence in Hong Kong and India.
“In spite of this position, Kuoni’s outbound business faces increasing challenges from changing market conditions,” the group said.

“In consideration of the fundamental changes in the industry and the unique position of Kuoni Group as a leading service provider to the global travel industry, the board of directors and group executive board have decided to focus the company’s resources on those core activities in which Kuoni already enjoys a leading market position with attractive prospects.

“Kuoni has therefore decided to exit the tour operating businesses.”
The group is to build on “robust financial foundations,” which will support a growth strategy in the emerging travel markets of Asia, the Middle East and Africa.

“Proceeds from the sale of the tour operating businesses will mainly be invested to further develop the group’s core business and strengthen its leading global market positions,” the company said.

Kuoni Group employed approximately 8,000 people and generated revenues of CHF 3.4 billion in 2014.
Mid-term targets for the new set-up will be issued together with the full year results announcement on March 17.

Seychelles’ Tourism Minister hails JollyPress’ new initiative

Minister for Tourism and Culture Alain St.Ange has congratulated JollyPress International for the new initiative of launching the Jolly Maps app for iPhone and iPad, adding that this is a great way of supporting what the Seychelles Tourism Board is doing to market the islands as a destination.
He said this when meeting JollyPress editor Dr Lucia Ciunfrini and the art director Riccardo Roccardi in his office at the Espace building yesterday. Present during the meeting with JollyPress was the chief executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board Sherin Naiken. The courtesy visit also marks the 25th anniversary of Dr. Ciunfrini’s first visit to Seychelles on January 14, 1990.

To download the App, users should simply select APPLE STORE / Search/ write jollymaps or APPLE STORE / Categories / Travel / select jollymaps. The Jolly Maps app which took two years to prepare was launched in Rome, Italy on December 17, 2014 has maps of Mahe, Praslin, La Digue and places of interest at your fingertips.

Furthermore, visitors can also get access to a wealth of information relating to Seychelles history and excursions such as the marine park. The impressive photo gallery will simply blow your mind away.
Dr Ciunfrini, the brain behind the product has dedicated the past 25 years of her life promoting Seychelles with her maps and glossy, haut de gamme ‘ Elite Seychelles’ and ‘ Elite Travel’ magazines. Her tour guide mini books have been translated into six languages.

Air Seychelles In Free Fall!

The numbers or load factor on Air Seychelles flights do not look good.
After coming in and promoting himself to be " Superman " from Joburg, The little Indian from South Africa, Manoj Papa, is not looking so super anymore.

Manoj lined up with Lovely stewardess from Seychelles, that have a very exotic look to them, to announce new routes to Mumbai, Dar Es Salam, And Madagascar, without any marketing strategy in place. It was as if no one was watching Manoj Papa, so he did whatever he dreamt of.
It has been a disaster. Low load factor making each route non viable, and costly to keep.
Paris Nightmare

The Paris -Seychelles Flight, with a technical stop in Abu Dhabi, has been a total flop. Unfortunately, we have also lost our main market, and the French may never come back for some time, until we can deliver a direct non stop flight.
Charles De Gaulle is a no brainer. It is a hub for Western Europe, we do not have to rely only on the Paris market to fill a direct flight, but we need to engage partners, asm seal the deal, with efficient cost effective tickets under 800.00 euro round trip.

Etihad -Air Seychelles Premuim Tickets

To aggravate matters on the route, Etihad and Air Seychelles are selling Seychelles as a Premium destination. This means in bottom line terms, one economy ticket on Etihad Air Seychelles, will cost near twice of a condor ticket to Seychelles.

Most Expensive Ticket To Seychelles

The Seychelles to many is the Rolex of island destinations. Air Seychelles prices it that way, and perhaps they may just pricing her out of market.

Empty seats, empty routes, empty hotel rooms. Manoj Papa has done a number on Seychelles.
The girls at Air Seychelles are calling daily, asking what to do with all those pictures of Manoj Papa.
Suggestions anyone?

SCCI welcomes reduction in fuel prices

Office of the Chairman

15th January 2015

The Seychelles Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the recent reduction in fuel prices locally and has said that it hopes this translates into reduced costs in electricity services.
SCCI Chairman Marco Francis has said the reduction will ease some of the challenges of doing business. This is especially true for the production and construction sectors where they rely a lot on fuel to operate.
“We at the SCCI have been pushing for this reduction for a long time now, especially in the light of the continued fall in the price of oil on the international market.” Francis said.
“The increasing cost of fuel has been one of the main topics of our deliberations with government  in cross sector meetings chaired by Vice President Danny Faure. AT least it is one area where our dialogue has borne fruit,” he stated.
SCCI thanks the authorities for taking its members concern on board and remains committed to dialogue to find common solutions to challenges.
I appeal to the Private Sector to appreciate this achievement and to remain united in our efforts to bring down the cost of doing business in Seychelles, so that our productive sectors can contribute even more towards our economy and offer our society better services at affordable prices.”

The SCCI appeals to non-members in the business community to join the Chamber as-; “United we stand a better chance of realizing our goals and aspirations!” ENDS

Despilly Williams Visits Christopher Gill

Despilly Williams, artist extraordinaire, accompanied by Allen Bacco paid a visit to Christopher Gill en route from La Digue today.

Despilly Williams presented to Christopher, a purple shirt that belong to his father Mickey Mancham, which Des says Mickey gave me this shirt in 1970 when we were on tour in Mauritius.

The shirt was a gift, and Despilly William said the death of Mickey was such a tragic event in his life, he was my best friend, we were so close, I kept the shirt all this time for 45 years.

Despilly said he knew Mickey had a Son that left Seychelles in 1970 but he did not know his name. Des says about Five (5) years ago, I came to understand that Christopher Gill was in fact Mickey son, the son he spoke about in Mauritius.

On tour in Mauritius Des said they were invited Gatean Duval to perform town to town. When we left Mauritius, we had 10,000 people saying good bye to us as we took the ship to Mahe. I will never forget this time, Despilly said.

Christopher Gill said he will have the story written and the shirt framed, and he will offer it to Minister Alain St. Ange, to place in the Seychelles Stars Hall of Fame, it is an incredible and emotional story. Des has mentioned numerous times on radio and TV that he has. A precious souvenir of Mickey Mancham, his best friend, who died too young, and left all of Seychelles broken hearted. Today at least, he said, I am happy to give this souvenir to his Son Christopher Gill.

Oil Found in Seychelles

It has been reported that oil appears to have been found in Seychelles.
To be precise, the location is Praslin, Seychelles, Anse Takamaka II besides the Raffles Hotel.

Off the beaten path, bags of sand have rounded a large pit containing oil product deposit.

If the source is viable, extraction can start immediately, and refinery facilities can be set up on the Industrial Estate in Mahe and Praslin will be able to export oil to sister island Mahe.

Seychelles already has numerous tankers going unused and transshipment of oil pumped from this hole will be trams shipped for minimal cost.

In the United States, families have their own oil rigs in the back yard in some States. They are independent producers who are responsible now for the glut of oil on the international market.

Seychelles oil hole will require little rigging since the hole holds oil deposit product at the surface. One will only have to drop a bucket, collect the Black Gold and cash out!

The only setback is the oil reserve hole is right in front of the National marine Park, but that should
not be an issue with the PL who disregard the environment when money talks.

SNP is Going Into Elections Before Any Electoral Reforms are Past

Pensioned Priest Speaks Up
Did everyone hear and watch Wavel Ramkalawan on SBC this week, prime time, normally afforded only to State House directives?

Run In Elections In spite of No Reform
After declaring in 2011 after the Presidential elections, that SNP will no longer participate in elections until electoral reforms promised in 1992 are in place, Mr. Ramkalawan made an astounding unprecedented declaration that SNP is now going into elections as a party, in spite any electoral reforms being passed by the PL ex SPPF government.

Why The Opposition Boycott
The issue of boycott centered around the critical issue of the essence of  Democracy in as much as best democratic practice promised in 1992, as exposed by and advanced by SFP were not being implemented after 20 years of making the commitment by the SPPF cum PL.
SNP jumped on this bandwagon and boycotted National Assembly elections after Ramkalawan made a very poor showing in the Presidential elections and garnered only 32% of the vote. He was not even close to winning in the last Presidential election, and opted to Boycott upcoming elections, and pension out at a nice SCR. 45,000.00 per month for himself. Later, this political pay off (negotiated at State House with Michel and SNP) was kicked up to Scr. 60,000.00 per month or so in 2014 ( after PL amended the Emoluments Act.
Not bad for a covert Priest cum politician.
Such financial success in the mist of opposition, could teach our popular Chairman at Seychelles Chamber of Commerce, Marco Francis, some lessons on how to make money in a deep recession. He may consider, writing a book, and sell it on Amazon.com, and cash in nicely, probably title:  “How To Get Rich Losing Elections, Over and Over, and Over Again”.
SNP Position in 2011
“SNP will not participate in any more elections until the electoral reforms are place”.
SNP Position in 2015
“SNP will participate in elections”.

Where are the Reforms?
1.     The Right of Overseas Seychellois to cast a vote in an election as per United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and Conventions signed by SPPF, where is it SNP? What happen? Les Tombe?

2.     The dismantling of the District Administration apparatus (Delinking), as per the recommendations of the Commonwealth for 20  years, where is it SNP? What happen? Les Tombe?

3.     Allowing foreigners like Khalifa funding PL, and other parties, where is it SNP? What happen? Les Tombe?

4.     The list promised of foreigners sold Seychelles passports, acknowledged by PL to have exceed 4,000 people, where is it SNP? What happen? Les Tombe?
5.     The delinking of the Seychelles People’s Armed Forces from the PL Party, where is it SNP? What happen? Les Tombe?
6.     Use of government vehicles and fuel coupons in elections, where is it SNP? What happen? Les Tombe?

7.     Redesigning of Districts and creation of new Districts with PL  supporters disproportionately living in the Districts to guarantee a PL victory(the very illegal practice of  Gerrymandering), where is it SNP? What happen? Les Tombe?

8.      Delinking of the Office of The Commissioner of Police and Seychelles Police Force from the ruling Party, where is it SNP? What happen? Les Tombe, bannla?

9.     The constitutional promise of SBC being Independent, where is it SNP? What happen? Les Tombe?
1                                                                                                                                                                        The Seychelles Human Rights Country Report, due every year since 1992, never filed once, where is it SNP? What happen? Les Tombe, bannla?

I can write Ten (10) more points, but I have  a life. SNP should get a life, shut down, and move on. The priest was nothing but an empty cassock, the rosary he carried was made in China, blessed by Buddhists perhaps.

Most likely they got paid again.

Time to build another three (3) story house overlooking poor, pathetic Victoria.
We need an Audit.

Extra Stop Press Release

Recently, Dr. Henry Naiken, Seychellois Citizen, made it to Amazon.com Best Sellers List with an inspirational book titled: "Human Influentail Engineering".Dr. Henry Naiken 's career started way back in 1987 after having written to a mail order publisher at that time, asking him to visit Seychelles for a Holiday. After the Publisher read his letter [a 14 page letter] as to why he should visit Henry in Seychelles, he then requested that Henry Naiken start writing for his publishing company.Despite being a youth-worker at that time with no degrees to his name, dr. Naiken took up the challenge and came up with his first metaphysical book titled: "KTS Mind Power Program" - a book based upon using martial art moves and visualizations in overcoming negativity in ones psyche!Dr. Naiken went on to write Five (5) more books for this publisher, with "Cosmo Earth System" being the best seller and best in helping people overcoming major distress and making powerful transformation in their lives.Five (5) years later, Dr. Naiken started following the new trend of self-publishing but found out that this new publishing brand was just another name for the then 'Vanity Publisher' whereby you just spend your own money to feed the mouth at the other end of the spectrum.Dr. Naiken took to the streets of publishing on his own and after only Three (3) months of writing, formatting, and outsourcing the design of his covers, editing, and other important activities like getting books on Amazon and other outlets, he finally found a way to make an impact to the world with what he had to offer us.In November 2014, his first "#1 best seller on amazon" and today the 9th of January he hit a second " #1 best seller on amazon".When ask how does it feel to be a star overnight, Dr. Naiken says:" I would like to say to the critics out there... 57 years has been a long night! :)"

Je suis Charlie Hebbdo

By now every Seychellois has followed the massacre of the 12 journalists at Charlie Hebbdo which included the Editor and most of his team.
The human tragedy of this incident is disgraceful and a reminder that our Freedom of Speech, Our Freedom of Expression is not embedded in granite stone.
These fundamental rights are essential to the progress of any society.
In Seychelles we have had many Charlie Hebbdo's. Gerard Hoarau was gunned down in London, with 42 rounds into his frail lanky body. We all know who gave the order to murder Gerard Hoarau.
Countless others who held a different opinion from SPPF were gunned down, or tortured, murdered. The list is long.
After multi party democracy was ushered into Seychelles we all were given the impression that the era of violence was over.
But it was not. State thugs murdered Ricky Hermitte, Damantra Elutein, Claude Monnaie among others. No one has ever faced the chase of the Police or a court of Justice.
At its inception the MSR/ SFP office was broken into again by State operatives. State House has never denied the allegations and remained silent. Computers were stolen, hard drives destroyed. Perhaps if we were in the office, on that night, we too would have been murdered.
In the 2011 Presidential Elections, when I called for a Boycott, the powers that be were offended. They called me arrogant. In retribution, they burned down a thatch roof shed that housed scr. 500,000.00 of equipment used to run operate my hotel.
Freedom of Speech in Seychelles is still fragile, what gives James Michel the moral authority to comment on the murders of the journalists at Charlie Hebbdo?

Answer: He has none. The only difference with him and the Islamist a Terrorists is the terrorists will be tracked down, killed, or face Justice. Michel spends his time writing and rewriting books to attempt in vain to alter history, much like Hitler tried to do in World War Two.

Mr. Michel should rise above his lowly beginnings, set Freedom of Speech free in Seychelles, before he is tracked down with a pencil.

Extra, Extra, Seychelles Budget Disaster Beyond Expectations !

Happy New Year All Freedom Loving Seychellois!

Minister of Finance Sends Principal Secretary To SBC

No sooner than the first week of the New Year could get off the ground, and the national hang over from “No Enforcement Policy” on Public drunkedness and lewd behavior could be cured, the Minister of Finance, blocked time on SBC for his Principal Secretary to go explain the theory behind the National Disaster Budget to the People of Seychelles. The Principal Secretary, Mr. Payet left the Nation even more perplexed and uncertain, over his plans, and ideas then before the interview. His interview, likely left even PL MNA’s who blindly raised their hands in favor of this dastardly Budget in total remorse and regret. You know the old saying:” Hindsight is 20/20 Vision”- of course.

Euro Devalues Over Three Weeks 28%
Between the discussion of Rainbow Coalition gang at the Ministry of Finance, and SEPEC Boss Conrad Benoiton could reach a conclusion at the last hours of 2014, as 2015 rolled in, the EURO, national currency of our main Tourist inbound market, collapsed -28% against the US Dollar, the currency Seychelles purchases for goods, and pays its external obligations.
In a phrase, the perfect disaster dessert to go along with the Disaster main course, a la carte served by Minister of Finance, was dealt to the People of Seychelles, before they could even settle their 2015 hang over from the PL Sanctioned “Street Party”.

Fuel Crashes To 48.00 Per Barrel
While the Euro was going downhill, dashing the hopes and dreams of a holiday long haul, for 200,000 potential visitors, the price of oil per barrel was crashing on the international markets to a low of $48.00 per barrel, due to over supply, lack of demand, and systemic Deflation in the European markets. Cheap oil also meant cheaper gasoline in most if not all jurisdictions, except Seychelles. Conrad Benoiton has clicked Three Rupees off the price, but the real price of diesel in Seychelles should be Scr. 10.00 per litre, and gasoline should not be more then Scr. 14.00 per litre based on the international rate of fuel. SEPEC is playing games with the price of fuel, to keep its comfort zone safe and secure, while placing at risk the national economy of Seychelles based on Tourism and Fisheries. Both industries rely heavily on fair fuel prices, to remain viable.

January Empties Out Before St. Ange Returns
By the end of the year, NISB compiled every single name that could qualify as a person, and Visitor arrival to inch the statistics to 1% above 2013. After all this If any Yield in revenue from the same was down -5% from 2013.
In a phrase, Seychelles was sucking wind at the end of 2013. We were suffering. The numbers on occupancy show the Tourism Industry is collapsing. Yet, the Minister of Finance and the Rainbow Coalition of tight shirt technos said that the increase in taxes is fine, the Budget Strategy is perfect.
I will believe that when pigs fly.

Road Tax and Vehicle Tax Hike
If there is a tax that smells of Communism, it is the road tax and cc tax on vehicles.
The people hate this tax. The business community is cheated with this tax. It is morally wrong to tax a 1000 cc – 1600 cc car. No further comment.

The Message From Finance
The message Minister of Finance has sent is this: Seychelles is a double standard erradict destination,  that lacks consistency on tax scheme, and lacks compliance, lacks enforcement, because Minister of Finance does not know how to do its job. When that becomes apparent, the Ministry of Finance will just have to tax the People of Seychelles, kill them a little faster, off one by one, so there is a reduction in Consumption, therefore less Demand for hard currency, which we earn less and less each year, because we implement Budget policies that stick it to Visitors, stick it to the business community, and stick it to every Seychellois capable of earning a wage, and spending it in 2 weeks of the month or 2 days, depending on the month.

As Disaster Looms GOS Must Amend The Budget
Economic disaster is now imminent for Seychelles. I will with hold the adjectives on this issue now.
The only course of action is for government to sit down with the private sector, discuss the immediate pressing issues, amend the Budget immediately, before Seychelles is dismissed as viable Nation- State.
2015, we will see thousands in the streets, if PL does not change its approach and change its course.
PL remember this: “a country is hard to build-it can take decades, but it is much easier to destroy-that can be done overnight!”
If you do not believe me, ask you RASTSARIKKKA ( something like that) friend in Sri Lanka.
