The combination of holding Chairmanship of SHTA and retaining Directorship of Select Seychelles with all the Public Relations spots that go hand in hand with the post, allowed Freddy Karkaria a golden opportunity to extend his credit facilities with hotels, ferries, helicopter operations , excursions, to the point that collectively, these companies may be out of over SCR. 30 Million or more. Perhaps we will never know.
As Chairman of the SHTA hotels , ferry operators, excursions operators believed Freddy would pay them and they will not be duped by them. They trusted him from the high esteem position he inherited from Mr. Louis d'offay. The trade partners were wrong, dreadfully wrong.
Today they have invoices to Select Seychelles collecting dust. Emails are not being replied. Phone calls are not being taken.
On the way out, the SHTA Board thanked Mr. Karkaria for an excellent job, and they wished him well.
In a subsequent email, they continued to protect their fallen Chairman, advising us that they have to way forward as an association concerning Select Seychelles.
Yet, the MD of Select Seychelles was sitting right there next to all of them, all these months, under their nose racking up the bills with its members, and sending Tourists all over Seychelles in July and August, knowing full well and proper, these suppliers were never going to be paid in the ordinary course of business. To me, that is fraud and I would even call it white collar theft. Shame on the SHTA Board. They should all resign and call for elections.
Bernie Maddoff did a similar style Ponzi Scheme on Wall Street. In 2008 he was busted, on information his own children supplied the FBI because they knew, Their father would bring down Wall Street if they stayed silent. He cost his investors 170 Billion US Dollars, and was sentenced to 153 years in jail, with no opportunity for parole.
Freddy Karkaria got a GOLDEN HAND SHAKE from SHTA! He is a disgrace, and a shame. The Board of SHTA is no better.....they let him use SHTA checks to pay for dinners, while he raised fees for members and did not pay his bills to them.
If Madoff can do 153 years, GOS should consider charging Freddy Karkaria with FRAUD.
The AG should give him at least 15 years, considering he duped the entire Tourism industry of Seychelles. Now some key players are facing their own financial woes because Freddy did not pay for service rendered, from money he collected on BEHALF of operators as an exclusive agency for the rich and famous, as he use to put it to me.
Poor me.....Freddy owes me just Euro 1,000.00 since he was placed on "pay as you go". For that he use to say I am rude.

That is called bankrupcy fraud.....trustees should gather allbposible ehindence andvask justice to investigate....In fact in all modern and civilzed society,there is a branch of justice responsible to check and scrutinize bankrupcy claims like in the case of Zakaria,in order to test if the persons claim is justified or if not just a scam.
Freddy Karkaria was Chairman of SHTA. He was supported 100 percent by Board members. The Board's first and foremost obligation was to look after the interest of its members not protect Freddy Karkarias ponzu scheme and fraudulent practice.

In the meeting with Ministry of Employment on Praslin not a single official from SHTA attended. Today. The slack had to be handle by the SCCI again.
