China Builds Up In Indian Ocean Region

The People's Republic of China (PRC) is quickly building up its influence commercially and militarily in the Indian Ocean Region. The United States of America is late in the game of geo politics to catch up with China in the region.

New International Airport Mauritius
In Mauritius China financed a new international airport, able to receive Airbus 380's. These super sized planes capable of carrying 500 passengers at a time are landing in Mauritius daily. In addition, direct flight from Beijing by Air Mauritius, a airline that was facing bankruptcy only three  years ago, is now on the move and has on order it's own Airbus 380. The China card has played well and meaningfully for Mauritius.
This project cost China over $450 Million.

Mozambique Fishing Port
In Mozambique, China has played another card of its own, for its own benefit. It has invested another $450 Million into a fishing port. The port is centrally located in the Mozambique Channel where Yellow Fin tuna, des erase fish like groupers, red snappers are plentiful as well as salt water shrimps asm large prawns and cabs. With the investment, cheap labor, China will be able to establish a reliable food source of seafood for its markets back on mainland China.
Countries like Mauritius and Seychelles, Comores and Madagascar to a lessor extent become the main losers in this mega investment.

Comores

Comores is quickly moving into Tourism and they intend on making China a prime market. Complexities with their ports prevent them from securing any positioning in fisheries. But Tourism is promising with their unique culture.

Seychelles Ask for Military Investment

Seychelles on the other hand, has not ask China for economic infrastructural investments. Instead, Seychelles has opted for request from People's Republic of China Army for military assistance.
This year, China delivered a number of coast guard cutters for defense of the coast. The ships are quite large and if a few more turn up to the port, it will start looking like an armada.
This year aswell, China sent Seychelles Air Force a plane. It is the second plane.
Last year on the heels of a high level delegation, PRC gave Seychelles caches of bullets, surface to air missiles, anti personnel weaponry , cases of AK -47's .
They Seychelles government has encouraged China to develop bases on outer islands, and expand the airstrips, place infrastructure., dredge lagoons to create bays and be able to receive larger ships. Request has been made for increasing size of fuel depots on IDC islands.
