A Tough Day on Praslin For President Faure

President Faure kept his promise to come to Praslin, after visiting La Digue. It proved to be a tough day for President Faure.

Walk into District Office

After arriving by ferry, with his entourage of personnel and security, he filmed a walk about in Baie St. Anne in front of the fishermen stand. The scene was a bit stressful. Perhaps President Faure did not know, he was walking just past the Baie St. Anne heroin den. If you felt like zombies were onlooking, you now know why.

Baie St. Anne Meeting

In attendance at the meeting were all key players that make the island work. school head teachers, MNA, ferry operators, charter operators, Fisherman Association, Police, and so forth. In total about 20 strong.

In attendance from government were, Designated Minister, Macsuzy Mondon, Vice President, Vincent Meriton, the President, MNA , DA and so on.  It was a high level meet, unprecedented in recent Seychelles history. The President deserves compliments for pushing for such high level meetings.

The Tough exposes itself!

As the floor open for discussion, Darrel Green ask for fresh elections. Quite an embarrassing request given that the President is elected on a ticket. Hence, he DOES have a mandate to run the country. If he did not, why did they receive him at the National Assembly?
The Headteacher for Baie St. Anne address the need for a fence, gate, and dogs dumping trash in the yard over the weekend. Tough. Hardly an issue to be discussed with the President.
Fishermen complained of lack of infrastructure to implement the Blue Economy policy. While other districts in Mahe were on their send or third phase of infrastructure up grade in fisheries, Praslin has been left behind, operating on fisheries infrastructure, dated back to 1980.
The drug addiction issue was raised, and alarmed all present that, 1500 drug addicts on an island with a population of 7200, is simply unacceptable. Where did we go wrong?
How can we move forward?
Many business are failing on Praslin. Government and the President is aware of this. In response, he has named the Vice President Vincent Meriton in charge of Inner Islands to deal with issues facing Praslin, to turn her around, for the people, and for the Nation.
Noticeably absent was the Taxi Association, they must have starved to death by now.

Key Message

The key message, it seems rounded on national reconciliation and an official pardon by the President, on behalf of his party. That is fine.  Most reasonable people can accept this for minor infractions,in the life of the Nation, but I doubt if it will carry much weight, in murder, mayhem, disappearance, financial ruin of families, because of politics and victimization.

Cross Sector Praslin

A proposal was made for a cross sector meeting to take place with ministers and the Vice President, to address the serious issues Praslin faces. It is envision that this would be an appropriate method of work. Praslin, naturally, looks forward to Mr. Presidents reply......the sooner, the better, for Praslin, for the Nation.

Bon Courage!

I think it is well intention to visit Praslin. But it is too late for Le pep.
They would have to have a minister stationed permanently to address the mess.

Business has to work well for government to be able to collect taxes to implement its social justice programs.
Failing that, in Praslin situation, government will collect taxes from creole, Mason's, lemuria and a few others.
There are structural impediments in the economic structure that prevent it from working well for everyone. This is Le Peps responsibility to deal, with not the businesses that benefit from it.
Bottom line is Praslin has had enough of being taken on a ride after years of inadequate attention by government. All the structures are in place, most do not work well, or to expectations, or they are under financed, or mismanaged, as the case of the coco de Mer.

President Faure has inherited a big problem, but he has inherited a great opportunity as well. It's up to him to decide if he will convert.

FAure has a steep mountain to climb on Praslin. The best thing he should do to easy the climb is deliver,,,implement the wishes and solve the problem of Praslin caused by his careless.disinterested Predeccossors.

That Faure played death ears when the headteacher raised her concern about the asocial conducts of certain persons(aparently drug addicts) in her schoolyard(living used heroin sometime contaminated NEEDS and dog shit invading her school permises.... Faure death ears palyed was just amazing.Faure should have concern and make it a priority when it come to the BIEN-ETRE of our kids and children........
A fence should not be a problem for Fuare governemnt to build keeping in mind that the last pl distirct mayor spet SR one million rupee on a bus stop. Moreover,,,,this typifies why is it necessary to seriously think of bring up a mosion that alwfully allow at least ONE QUARTER or more of tax collected on Rpaslin from Praslinois busineses etc ..be left at PRaslin ,for Praslin ..in order that Put a fence to protect our kids at Baie ste Anne school need not to be approved ,begged from central government .In other owrds ,,,The district mayor should have a certain amount of money in his or her district coffer to undertake small but important infratructure needed in their districts without going through the central govenremnt bureuacracy, long waiting and begging.

Cococ de Mai collected and sold ,money should go back to Valley De MAI FOND .for its protection,etc........

That FAure wants to ask for general pardon in the name of his party is one thing.Namely as for pardon for 4 decades of Pl dictatorship and the suffering it causes on our people..WHen it comes to RECONCILAITION ...the only genuine way to achieve it ,is that culprits and victims reconcile and that can only take place between the two parties involved namely Culprits/victims.As President ,Faure can mediate ,encourage, support, the process buthe can not act as a party^s lawyer.

Talking about COCO DE MER----Valley DE MAi---i would go beyond the issue of the seeds itself....i beleive that due to increase traffic pollution dsicharged by traffics going through the main road that pass Valley de MAi should maybe ,be diverted.Diverted to where ...for those who knows Praslin and the main road going from Baie Ste Anne via valley de Mai to Grand Anse ....Just before reaching Valley de mai coming from B:S,A via FOND DOFFAY---just before reaching or decending the valley de MAi road .there is on the LEFT OF the main road ,,,a secondary and unfinsihed raod..this could be where the divertion begins .....then access to the actual road thrgoguh Valley de mai could be closed to genral trafics ,,even gated ...so that onyl FIREbrigade and police transport in case of emergency could use ..As to tour buses ,taxis ,,,,,parking facilities outside the gat should be created ......
That means also that the piece of now main road when coming from Grand Anse going through valley de mai .(before the Waterfall ..should be blocked and gated so too.... so that it provides more walking ,trailing ways to tourists and other visitors. This would reduce pollution and thereby provide better protection of the reserve.
Additionally ,talking about developing Praslin ,,i could see a stone ,castle- like restuarant at the top of ZIMBABWE mountain(instead of leaving in literally business anbandoned space ... it is a well -visited spot ,,and could provide restaurant service that would boost visit up there and make it an important spot for both locals and tourists.

Infrastructure is crumbling aside from EU water storage expansion project. Electricity infrastructure is crumbling.
Roads have already crumbled.
Human resource has crumbled.
Fishing industry has crumbled since 1979.
Now tourism is crumbling aside for a few operators.
Jetty is crumbling.
I am lost at how Faure can resolve this massive neglect project.
It will take a miracle or some serious FDI which will compel that we accept Middle East investors.

too long neglected by Rene and \Michel ,they prefered to waste tax money in beficit prawn farms on Farquar then invest in the communities.i would not be easy for Faure to fix pl decades of negligent toward Praslinois ..indeed the task is immense. The only is not reinvest money collect in taxes on Praslin back in Praslin for the coming years if not decade.

Grand Anse Praslin - Anse Lazio resurface estimate cost: SCR. 350,000,000.00
Side walks from Baie St. Anne to Côte Dor on to La Reserve : SCR. 50,000,000.00
Solar Lights on main road ways only : Free ( 600 road lamps with base sitting in PUC warehouse on Mahe)
End contesting at passenger jetty, while Ports sources funds from World Bank for Praslin Port Upgrade along with Port Victoria package : SCR. 1,200,000.00 ( capital cost / golf cart buggy X 10 hire drivers, block access to all other vehicles. Add a surcharge on tickets to pay for upgrade of shed at car park, and pay for buggy drivers, in the interim. Solve the congestion issue over night.
Beach cleaning program- create brigade of drug addicts to clean beach. Back up with concession on GOP for workers tomdomthe same, hotels can support, areas they use.
Fish processing plant. With ice plant Baie st. Anne and Grand Anse. ( ask Japan for help) divert some focus from Mahe to Praslin to give Praslin a new industry. Therefore not 100% dependent on Tourism. In the interim, GOS must make interim measures to allow fishermen to expand their business to a viable level.

The bay has to be re dredged because they left large rocks behind. Pat la Blache said they were dreading to allow cruise ships to come in. What a liar. After he got his dish he sent Prsslin to hell. The rocks are still there that prevent large cruise ships from entering.
Imagine what it could have meant for Praslin if this prince had done his job and been held accountable.

U totally right ,it seems Pl government does not the vision not to sax interst ,lack ideas. As you said.......block access to all ohter vihicles ....I would add to it Or ...should the carpark give access to other vehicles ,it should be paid by having CARPARK ticket machines ....
Use drug addicts to clean up beaches .another good idea ..which will keep them busy and active and be useful to their community while providing a real service too.
In all , spot on.... u said everything .\My concern is whether Pl brainless have the will to take these ideas which they seem donot have ,and deliver .....and thereby save Pl from total collapse._It is up to Faure government.

Anonymous said...

Here are some more ideas-
Hotels lack cooks, chefs, helpers, cleaners, gardeners.
Those people, leaving prisons need to be attached to counsellors. They need to be released early if crimes are minor infractions.
The counsellors need to make weekly review of the the release person. He must hold a job, hold a training position, maintain acceptable work hours, receive a pay check, strictly monitored. Hotels can use these staff injections, but government must do it s part, make sure these people have a vision for themselves, develop a work ethic to improve their own lives. The country will follow.
Example - international school lacks cleaners.
Countless hotels lack workers.
Government can tie employment with a matching saving scheme to get these guys off the ground and lead s decent life.
Right now, we just dump them in the world, they all end up on Côte d'Or harassing tourist, being a pest to the community.
More later.

Air Seychelles needs a ticket office on Bay St. Anne .
To buy a ticket, you have to go to the airport, pay before 4:00 pm.
After 4:00 pm they cancel your reservations.
Air Seychelles should also copy a taxi bus or Omani service for transfer to and from the airport, from Baie st. Anne for residents. They can charge a fee. It will be cheaper then residents having to drive across Vallai de Mai. Which cost 75.00 rupee in diesel each time we go.
Omni bus can have a collection point say opposite Barclays where we can all park.

My thought is if Victoria can have a Mayor why not Praslin elect or nominate one too.
Bet you Praslin will overpass Mahe on all issues.
And keep the tax money on Praslin not send in to Mahe for PL crooks.
Mr GILL is the man who can do this.
So,Praslinois what is your opinion?

Une Praslinoisse a tout coeur.

If pa ek nou.....they will say "zet anba"

Wow- I am humbled!
I went to see a family for road access issues on our land Thursday. I made an appointment with the DA , changed it twice to suite his schedule. My friend, you know this guy did not show up? I called him twice, no return call. I text him, no return text. Next case, this week, a lady on our land built a house. A few rocks are now falling on the house, her life is in danger. Again an appointment with DA Kevin Pointe.
You know some thing, he did not show up. I waited with my wife at the house for one hour.
Another case, DA promised to clean Au Cap beach and road side three months ago. I advise him peak season is coming. Tourist will take pictures of the mess. Post on social media. I offered a 3 ton tipper to help, for free, if he can get dumping sit fees waived. He said it has been budgeted. Yet, the pile of crap is still there three mo this later.
I do not know how Mr. president Faure, can tell us problems issues must be resolved in 48 hours, with this type of Administration.
While he means well, his structure needs a shake up, not just talk.

If Disrict mayor would be given charge and more responsible for issues in their communities .then Praslinois could have pushed and pressure their district mayors to do so ,else the risk of asking for his or her departure or face local DEMO.Unfortunately we still in a government with communist traits ,everything is centralized and decided at Statehouse .....things takes longer, decision is made on whether it is good for the party rather than the country in the first place ,or the governemnt would wait before election of start a project in a hurry with the hope of gaining some votes.....This mentality engrained in Pl government must be chance for it impede progress, development and answer to the need of the people, their expectation, and participation in society buildings as well as our economic development ... it is a disgrace to see how slow like a tortoise Pl take to act....
I heard over and over agin ,FAure telling his cabinet"Remember we are servant of the people"Well maybe Faure should now ensure that they start serving the people than just talk about it.

As Gill said ....there are hundreds of Drug addicts on Praslin,,,,it is high time thatthe governemnt organize activities such as Beach Cleaning for Drug addicts ...give them active, which would be start to get them slowly out of this vicious circle they in....... ,,,Could be part of their rehabilitation programme, Slowly ,those who show signs of recovery could even be unemployed permanently as Beach Cleaner cleaning team........Noting that depending on seasons ....beaches around Praslin needs to clean all year round ---Thus northeast monson Its Cote Dor ,Nase Lazio beaches ,while during the southeast monson is beaches in B:S.A ,grand Anse .etc....So their job for them ,all year round.
Time to get to the task Pl.

Anonymous said...

Ok after doing some beach cleaning myself, I managed to collect about a little less then a ton of plastics and drift wood, mass not weight.
I called DA Pointe ask him what happen to him. He said he was busy. I asked him why he did not call to reschedule? He said his phone does not work, it receives calls, but he cannot call out , and cannot text. Ok, I said: " why don't you find another phone? " He said: " I did". " Know I have Two Phones". President Faure, good luck man, you are going to need all the luck you can muster.
Between Green unloading his fish in dog shit as he says, and Pointe, Praslin is heading in the wrong direction.

Sometime ,I think that Faure should set up a LOCAL INFRACTURAL PLAN for Praslin for the coming Five years with the right budget to get what Pl has failed to do in 4 decades done.

Agreed. It would be good to know what he proposes. Right now he has not proposed anything, but to tell everyone to stand up get to work. A bit inconclusive. We will have to wait and see, where he takes this.

What boils my blood ,is when I see Meriton following Faure like a dog.WHy is this guy not in his office?

Anonymous said...

Meriton is now the Vice President, he has been designated responsible directly for Inner Island Affairs.
This post is a position we requested, be created so Praslin has a voice at Cabinet level, so decisions made at Cabinet will have to consider Praslin, La Digue, how we are affected adversely.
We all appreciate Meriton attended the meeting.
Aside from the politics of hate, we must get on with running the country, running our business, striving for a better life for us all, and toning down the aggression.
In that context, National Reconciliation will be possible, we can get on with it.
If you keep the tone insultive, you give Faure and Le Pep a key card- " blame people like you, for NOT Implementign National Reconciliation.
Be thoughtful.

WHAT MAKE YOU THINK PL WILL CHANGE THEIR ATTITUDE?
YOU MUST BE AN IDIOT TO LISTEN THE ANSWER GIVEN TO YOU.
I KNOW YOU ARE A SMART INTELLIGENT MAN....NO HARM MY FRIEND!
LAST BUT NOT LEST....1 OF 3 LEPEP SUPPORTERS ARE AS DUMB AS THE OTHER 2!

HAVE A GOOD DAY FROM DOWN UNDER.

Anonymous said...

We do not expect Le Pep to change their attitude as you say.
What we expect is for PL to understand we will listen to their appeals, listen to their new direction.
Then, we will wait to see tangible action.
As the actions tip in, we must gauge our reaction to be positive- as per the action.
If we sand bag them, while the opposition is receiving big salaries, as MNAs then you shift the need for a National Reconciliation policy that is genuine.
You give Faure a reason to drop the issue.
Remember, he is only a ideological admirer of Rene and his era. He was not privy to the exiling, murder, mayhem, disenfranchisement of Secyhellois.
Let me give you an example: if President Faure dismantles Zom Lib tomorrow by text while in Morocco on the Climate Change Conference, to show he is serious, are we going to come back with insulting him, cursing him, as Bernard Sullivan has called on us all to do? Naturally, this would be a step in the right direction, a big symbolic step, showing the nation must heal to move forward. It will deserve due respect.
Thank you.

My view is Adam needs to get a real job, earn a real living wage, that is NOT guaranteed every month, but rather contingent on his performance.
In my experience with Adam, he has talk a lot, mis step a lot, spends a lot of time on theory, with very little practical knowledge.
Remember, he was the Minister of Blue Economy. He is from Praslin. His wife is from Consolation.

How many ice plants do we have since Adam was Minister? None. The one at Baie St. Anne has capacity to fill 25% of one boat going out for three days.

How many ice plants on Grand Anse side? None again.

How many fish processing and storage plants? None again.

So there you have it, Adam did nothing for the Blue second my on Praslin.

Please leave Adam out of this unless you want to destroy Le Pep before giving it a fair fighting chance.

Zom lib is fundamentally in the equation for Le Pep, JRM, Ramkalawan, Ferrari, Gill. It is going no where as you would like to suggest that we change the subject.
Zom Lib is a core symbol and core focus of the SPPF Le Pep Folk lore.
Zom Lib is a core symbol of the traditional of tyranny, division for the other half of the country and many over seas.
Today, if we are intellectually honest, with multi media, social networks, Zom Lib can no longer pull any positive weight for Le Pep.
It has been a symbol of infamy, ridicule, and focus to unite all Seychellois against a government that has lost touch.
Now Le Pep seeks to get back in touch with a new Presideent, new team.
He will be wise to do what is needful, on his watch, remove Zom Lib from town, in the spirit of national reconciliation, which he himself has challenged us.
We are not waiting on Ramkalawan or Ferrari to call for the removal of Zom Lib.

Don't worry about zonm lib, Pillay the then Ton Pat stated that 5th June is and will be part of history and we can't change it.
Actually this zonm lib is on the right path to resting place, just give a little time.
It started at the back of stadium his ass facing Montagne Trois Frere for more then tree decades now moved to Maison Du Peuple.
Surely it will head to the jetty where a bardge will be waiting patiently to the resting place together with the old Tata buses.
However we will have another human problem. Maybe some people who love and adore this IRON METALso dearly will commit suicide!
Then PL will blame LDS for this saga.
