CONGRATULATIONS & CELEBRATIONS!!!

Author: Josette Hoarau

The people of Seychelles have spoken, and they want change! It seems that after 38 years, that dark smog of oppression that has been suffocating the Seychellois nation is starting to lift. Congratulation to the people and the opposition leaders that have created this ray of sunshine, this hope for true freedom in our country.

However the people have also clearly indicated that they want a more inclusive opposition. They expect of the opposition leaders to find the common sense to strengthen their unity and combine their talents to form an effective team that will not only ensure that together we cross that final finishing line to victory, but create a unit that is fit and proper to deliver the good governance that has been promised.

There is an array of talent in the opposition. Now is not the time to talk about SNP or LP or Lalyans or whatever, now is the time to talk about what is best for the Seychellois nation as a whole. Credit to Wavel for actually saying that in his victory speech. It is incumbent on the united opposition to select the best possible talent that can deliver transparent, effective, just and democratic governance to the people of Seychelles. They need to create an honest capable and dedicated team that can repair the catastrophic damage caused by 38 years of corrupt and incompetent rule by a bunch of usurpers. They need to build the institutions of state to ensure the independent separation of powers of our courts, parliament and executive that will deliver competent, impartial and transparent governance. They need to unite the people with a spirit of respect and tolerance to create a nation that will progress in peace. The people of Seychelles deserve and expect nothing less.

Again congratulations to the people and the opposition leaders who have made this possible. May God bless and guide you to do what is in the best interest the people in your deliberations and endeavours that lie ahead.

WE SHALL OVERCOME SOMEDAY!

No doubt Seychellois taught, not only national politicians but African Continent,a lesson of decency, maturity and civility.Srychellois has also demonstrated that democrcay requires patience in the process of waiting for a turn to accept congratulation or defeat.

No doubt,The next elected President would have an immense task before him,to deliver all you mentioned ur comment, but would also need to democratize our institutions, drliver of human rights, justice etc......to achieve and be up to the tasks, the new President and his govt. Would have to listen to,work with the seychellois people, and make a u turn.
Else, the new govt would not survive, cause i am conflict that seychellois as from now ,would never accept the same practices of the old establishment, nor have the patient to look and watch politicians abuse their power, rob the nation, bankrupt her,nnd so on.....seychelloiis from.now on,are going to scrutinize, and if necesary sanction any govt which tries to fool them,,and not after ,4 decades, but imediately..........

A leader who will hold this country together will have to know the lessons of pardon, forgiveness, empathy, humility.
He will have to listen, but not always hear.
He will have to see, but not always see.
He wil have to speak, but not speak all words.
This country is made up of a violent people in character.
Our tongues are violent.
Our actions passive.
But the professy of the tongue always walks on the edge of action.
To hold this country, it will take humility in spirit, not arrogance at heart.
