Air Seychelles Makes Brilliant Move !

AIR SEYCHELLES ANNOUNCES MAJOR EXPANSION IN EUROPE AND INDIAN OCEAN IN 2017

  • Non-stop twice-weekly flights from Seychelles to Düsseldorf
  • Non-stop twice-weekly flights from Seychelles to Durban
  • Paris service frequency increase from three to four flights per week
  • Additional regional capacity to Johannesburg, Mauritius and Mumbai
  • Second wide-body Airbus A330 to enter fleet

Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, has announced a major fleet and network expansion that will see the airline introduce a second Airbus A330 aircraft, commence non-stop services to Düsseldorf (Germany) and Durban (South Africa), and significantly strengthen its existing regional network in early 2017.
The airline plans to establish the air bridge between Seychelles and Germany on 30 March, 2017, by launching a twice-per-week service to Düsseldorf, in western Germany.
To further strengthen its European network, Air Seychelles will also upgrade its Paris service from three to four flights per week, with effect from 28 March 2017, giving more travel options to holidaymakers visiting Seychelles from France.
Effective 30 March 2017, the Seychelles flag carrier will also commence a twice-weekly service to South Africa’s port city of Durban, an important trade hub that is home to over three million people, complementing its existing five-a-week service to Johannesburg.
Roy Kinnear, Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, said: “Air Seychelles has grown extensively and robustly in 2016 and is now ready to embark on the next exciting chapter of its evolution, further enhancing air access to our archipelago and bringing more holidaymakers and business people to our shores.
“Both stakeholders, the Government of Seychelles and Etihad Airways fully support the airline’s plan to develop its European network by establishing a non-stop connection to Germany, a strategically-important market that is currently the second-largest source of inbound tourism after France.
“More than 29,200 people from Germany have visited Seychelles so far this year, representing an increase of nine per cent over 2015, demonstrating the importance of opening up air links to this part of the world.
“Together with the new service to Durban, additional flights to Paris and increased regional capacity, these developments will lay the foundations for solid long-term growth of the Seychelles national airline and country's economy.”
The airline’s second Airbus A330 aircraft is scheduled to be delivered in the last week of March 2017 and will have a two cabin configuration with 18 Business Class and 236 Economy Class seats.
Mr Kinnear said: “The addition of a second wide-body A330 to our fleet is set to open up significant growth opportunities, enabling Air Seychelles to extend its network footprint in Europe and the Indian Ocean region.
“The new Düsseldorf service is an exciting and much-awaited development that will provide travellers in Germany and the wider catchment area of Belgium, Holland and Scandinavia with attractive new travel options to Seychelles.
“The German market has traditionally been a key source of leisure tourism for Seychelles and our Düsseldorf service has tremendous potential for driving passenger growth and stimulating the tourism economy of our islands.”
In addition to capturing point-to-point traffic flows, the Düsseldorf flight schedule has been carefully timed to give international travellers seamless connections over Seychelles to Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar, Mauritius and Johannesburg.
Mr Kinnear said that Air Seychelles will further strengthen its presence in Europe by developing its Paris service and codeshare network.
“To maximise aircraft utilisation of our wide-body fleet, we are going to deploy an A330 on an additional fourth weekly frequency to Paris, which combined with Düsseldorf, will provide an unprecedented 3,048 return seats between Seychelles and Europe each week.
“We have developed strong codeshare partnerships with airberlin, Alitalia, Air Serbia, Etihad Airways and Air France, widening our reach to over 35 cities in Europe, and will continue to strengthen our relationships in the months to come.”
In addition to flying to Europe, the Airbus A330 will be used to increase capacity on the airline’s five-per-week regional services to Johannesburg, Mauritius and Mumbai which are currently operated on a narrow-body A320.
The introduction of a second wide body A330 will facilitate the upgrading of capacity on South Africa’s largest city Johannesburg on Thursdays and Saturdays, Mumbai on Saturdays and Mauritius on Sundays, increasing the combined seat capacity on these routes by 23 per cent.
This development will allow Air Seychelles to allocate an Airbus A320 to launch flights to Durban, the second point served by Air Seychelles in South Africa, offering 14,171 seats to and from Seychelles each year as well as quick connections over Seychelles to Düsseldorf and Mumbai.
Mr Kinnear said: “South Africa has strong trade, people and diplomatic ties to Seychelles that we can develop in the future with the establishment of a Durban service.”

A direct flight from Germany - Finally! It's about time.
To Durban is brilliant as well. Here is why: Indians. Durban is heavily populated with Indians. Rich Indians want to honey moon in South Africa- Durban. Combined with Seychelles, it is an up market no brainer seller- paradise, shopping, culture. All the best of the Indian Ocean.
Excellent move Air Seychelles.

.....and I hope the gate connects with the plane so passengers don't have to walk down and run when its raining. Its about time Seychelles gets a quality airport.

Definitively the Airport need to be brought to standard and modernity to reflect the standard of our tourism industry and country ....When passengers step down the planes ,the Airport is what give them the first impression ,so it must be of high standard.JETWAYS that connect planes to Airport buildings is a necessity to provide and improve both standard and quality .......Frankly ,we should long have had it ,,,,,Maurtius has it from decades now.....
AiRSEY is on a leeway ,,good work has been done ,,,,,and need to be continued......and I frankly believe, now that transport department is also under MR ST Ange ,it could only get better.

The new minister of transport will give Seychelles airways the go ahead.
So Hon. Afif needs to get to work to launch this fantastic idea.

Seychelles must attract all possible toursits ..What about enticing Australians ,one of the biggest tourist rpovdiers behind Europe ...for instance ,instead of BRAZIL........connectivity from Australia ,via aIsa would offer more airlines options from Autralia than Brazil ...Secondly ,,thousadns of Seychellois ,like the famous singer GRACE BARBE lives there ,,,and porbably would like to come regularly home......But also ,could decide to invest in their homeland.......
I am not saying we should not look at Brazil ,but Australia for me ,would provide more outcome than Brazil to our tourism industry .......JUST like direct flight from FINNLAND ..good ,but what about enticing SWDISH ;NORWEGAIN ,,who are much more richer than finnish

Good point. You should initiate discussions with Qantas. They can stop over in Seychelles on route to Mauritius, South Africa. It's a profitable endeavor no doubt. Certain St. Ange will support it .
Still not heard anything from Seychelles airways guys. Have you guys moved on to final process?

St. Ange efforts, hard work, has propelled Seychelles tourism forward, when markets are regressing.
We are lucky to have a man like him, turn around tourism.
Any country in the Pacific or Africa would pay a guy like that $ 100,000.00 per month for what he does.
The SNP faction in LDS needs to appreciate that, bury their baggage over ST. ANGE because attacking him turns the Trade against LDS.
Be fair, the country will respect you for it.
Be responsible, we will trust you.
Be jerks, we will deal you another hand.

I am all for St Ange doing a well done job in the tourism market for our 115 small island called Seychelles. Monsieur Gill nothing wrong about asking questions or grilling him until he answer the right answer. Are we not a Democratic Country that we all wanted? When you crossed the floor once or twice you went through the same process, didn't you? And you gave a valid answer why you did! And we gave you a thumb up.I am sure SNP or LDS appreciate what he has been doing.

Don't worry, I have been grilling st. Ange for 10 years, while half of you were in SPPF telling us that we can retain 10% of all our earnings in hard currency and we had to take the rest in rupees subject to a fixed rate of exchange. The other half of SNP lackeys who have no clue what is going on in Tourism, that are simply vindictive towards a decent man who has killed no one, stolen from no one, and works his heart out, at times to the point of near death, to make sure tourist keep on coming, money is secured to pay your fat cat salaries, rest assured, you will not waste St. Ange time.
This guy needs to be traveling to markets where we need a presence. This keeps tourist coming, keeps us fed. That means his work feeds you politicians as well. Let him do his job, stop harassing him. He is not your problem. All these years, he has been the solution. Where have you been?

By incident St Ange called to eliminate the stray dogs that welcome tourists on the beaches. Is this not an old issue that the ministerial is not doing shit! Dogs has been welcoming them on the beach for decades,if I am not mistaken as far as SPUP was in power. Now are we going to think that it will change by itself as you use to say?
The lists are long actual too long.

Stray dogs fall under minister of agriculture, it's not St. Ange problem, but it falls in his lap.
Ministry of agriculture should come up with a program that is acceptable with targets.
The community needs to do its part.
Simple.

Good morning 4*21 and 5*24

What is so hard to eliminate those dogs?
Give all loving dog owners a 3 days warning to control their dogs or else!
Do like we got rid of the green parakets or parrots.
Problem solve. What is so difficult? Do we need a Minister to figure this out?
Of course dog owners will say dog lives maters too!

Pure Simple.
